Waves
"O the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus"
O the deep, deep love of Jesus, vast, unmeasured, boundless, free!
Rolling as a mighty ocean in its fullness over me!
Underneath me, all around me, is the current of Thy love
Leading onward, leading homeward to Thy glorious rest above!
- S. Trevor Francis
I don't live near the ocean but I've visited a few times. The waves mesmerize me. I could watch them all day as I sit or walk along the beach. Walking the beach along on a sunny spring day in Virginia the hymn, "O the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus," came to mind. I sang it as I watched the waves roll in.
Since January, when I began this journey, I have felt like I've been riding the waves. The emotions of doing something new and exciting are also very strong. This is riding the top of the wave. The emotions of leaving everything comfortable and familiar are very strong at times. This is the wave crashing.
Recently, the waves have been crashing. I went for a walk in the quaint, historic town which I have called home for nearly 7 years. Moving here was exciting as I was starting a new chapter in life, my teaching career. I've lived in four different houses, and my school has been in three different buildings here. I realized that in about a month it will no longer be my home. What will I miss? The meticulously cared for victorian mansions, the peaceful and scenic river, the sidewalks and paths that I've come to learn, the little stores, watching the lift bridge going up and down, the co-op, my apartment that has been home for 4 years and that is just a list of things and not even the people.
In all this wave of emotion I am reminded of God's faithfulness and steadfast love to carry me through. He will not leave me and I will not drown under the waves. His love and care for me is great and He alone with sustain me through these waves of emotion.
"Fear not, for I have redeemed you: I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through the fire you shall not be burned, and the flames shall not consume you. For I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior." Isaiah 43: 1-3
