One year ago...
I had intended on posting this in March. I didn't finish it and am just returning to finish now.
It's been a year. A year since I accepted God's call on my life to teach in Budapest. I interviewed with ICSB and accepted the position within days. It was a huge decision. God was moving me to trust and take a step of faith. It has been beautiful, wonderful and challenging to see what He has done in my life through this time.
Moving here was the first time I really have been away from home. I lived on campus during my college days but that was only 15 minutes from my parent's house. Then, I moved to Stillwater and was only 30 minutes away from my parent's house. So moving to Budapest was a big deal for me. I've always been close to my family immediate and extended. My fears were abundant yet as I learned to bring them to God he asked me to trust.
Here I am 7 months after leaving Minnesota, everything and everyone familiar. How has it been? It's been a growing experience. The first moments were full of excitement and wonder at everything new. New people, new places, new school, new foods, new church..... new. Everything was new. Then the excitement wears off and it the reality of life sinks in. I am here for a long time. This is not just a vacation.
Recently, God began to open my eyes to little glimpses of his grace and goodness in my life. Here are a few.
- My bedroom with three sunny windows. I love the sunshine.
- The love he has given me for this country and people.
- New friends.
- God is still God.
- Carefully cared for gardens with blooming flowers.
- Walking 5-10 minutes and ending up at a friend's house.
- I enjoy life without a car. (most days)
- My students. They just amaze me and I have learned so much from them.
Learning to trust God is a continuous process as he is constantly challenging me with new things. He is loving, wise, sovereign God that has proved his faithfulness to me and many others over and over again.
