Books & Bible Project

"Miss Ferris, Is this MY Bible to keep?" Is it for me?" My students ask this same question very year on the first day of school as they find a full Bible in their cubby at school. I love their excitement for God's word and wanting their own copy. I tell them it is a Bible they get to use at school. It is not one for them to take home or to keep at the end of the school year. Honestly, it makes me a bit sad to have to say this. Every year, I inquire how many students have their own Bible at home. Many of my missionary students do but not all. Most of my Hungarian & International students do not have their own Bible. Some students have Bible story books but not the full Bible.

Students enjoy getting books from the book shelves in our classroom to read during the day. I have a nice collection of children's storybooks, informational books and chapter books. Yet, the collection of Bible story and Christian character building books are lacking - both in number and in their appeal. Most of the books in this category are old and falling apart.
What might God do if each of my students had a Bible that was their own to read, to keep, to treasure? How might God use this childlike excitement and eagerness to draw them into a love of Him and his word?  Might it show them their need for him as a savior? Might it be shared with their family and draw them to Christ as well?  How might having appealing Christian character books & Bible story books help these young readers to embrace and see the truths of God and apply them to their own lives?

I have a vision that to provide a new Bible for each student in my class and to stock my bookshelves with new Christian books for my students to enjoy. The Bibles would be their own to keep at home. The Christian books would at school for students for the next several years to enjoy.
