EduBucks

I've employed a new type of classroom management strategy this year.  EduBucks!

EduBucks are a classroom money.  They are earned by turning in homework on time, turning their behavior sheet/planner signed, having a clean desk, etc.  EduBucks can also be lost if my students are turned around in their desk, not raising their hand before talking, talking in Hungarian (it's allowed during snack, lunch and recess), etc.
My students LOVE their EduBucks!!!!  They have been collecting them and saving them for the EduBuck store where they can buy items with their money.

Almost daily for the past two weeks I've been asked when the EduBuck store would be open.  Finally, this past Friday was the grand opening of the EduBuck store.  The excitement was high!  I hope it lived up to their expectations.  I had planned ahead for prizes and brought some things from America such as fancy pencils, erasers, bouncy balls, silly straws and stretchy frogs.  The kind of stuff that kids love and adults often think is junk.  I also always include some 'coupons' that can be used for special things in my classroom.  Right now the store offers 3 coupons- No homework for a night, pick your classroom job for the week, and eat lunch with the teacher on Friday.

Here was the price list for items:
    $5 Pencils

$7 Erasers (they were the fancy collectable kind)
$10 Classroom coupons
$12 Toys (straws, stretchy frogs, fancy pens, etc)
    $15 Notepads

It was fun to see my students get so excited over the store opening.  It was successful thanks to my student teacher and high school aid who helps on Friday afternoons.  The students brought their newly purchased treasures to dismissal and it was the talk of the school.  They were sharing what they got with their friends and siblings in other grades.  Hopefully, it will continue to be a success in the future.
