May Moments in the Classroom

It's hard to believe it is May already.  The school year just flies by so quickly and here we are within days of the end of the year.   Here are some snippets of what we've been doing in (and out of) the classroom lately.

We are studying plants.  We are have all kinds of things growing in our classroom!  Grass, alfalfa, radishes, flowers, beans, corn, peas, and avocado.

I enjoyed being able to tie in science to Scripture by telling the parable of the soil.  I am praying for all the seeds of the Gospel that were planted this year that they fell on good soil where they can be watered and grow.  Will you join me?

We went to the Budapest Zoo!  I enjoy visiting the zoo but I was perhaps a bit nervous too taking my 16 students in Hungary on a field trip.   It was definitely different from field trips I had planned before.  I am very grateful for my Hungarian classroom aide who made all the arrangements.  I had 5 parents who volunteered they each drove their own group of students to the zoo.  Yes, the parents drove.  It was strange for me not having all the students on a bus, but it worked out.  However, my nervousness outweighed my excitement.  Why was I excited?  Well the Budapest Zoo is amazing.  It has animals I have never seen in person before.  I also learned that it is not an "OSHA" approved zoo.  We got VERY close to some animals.  We fed the camels.  We could have touched the Lemurs as they were wandering around cage free in a building or their outdoor habitat which we walked through.

We've also been learning multiplication.  Multiplication is a BIG deal to 2nd graders.  It's a sort of rite of passage.  For some students it comes easy and they have understood it for a long time already, for others it is a new concept that takes time to build.  (Thanks to Amy Lemons for the ideas.)
