It's been unseasonably warm here in Hungary for nearly a week. The temperature has been in the 80's and humid. Most places here don't have air conditioning. My house doesn't, nor does the school. What does one do when it is so warm to stay cool or enjoy the weather? Have campfires, roast s'mores, grill, and eat banana boats.
On Friday night my house of four girls (and others) was invited to an American family's house for dinner. They grilled chicken, burgers and hot dogs out on an open fire. Then we attempted to make s'mores. The only marshmallows that could be found were shaped liked Smurfs. Yes, they were blue and white. They didn't roast so well. They got hot and melted right off the sticks. We were successful with a few but several ended up in the fire pit or in the grass. Us women sat on their beautiful front porch, around the table and talked the night away. The teenagers played and the men kept the fire. It certainly didn't feel like the end of April. It had the feeling of a great July evening in Minnesota.
On Saturday night there was another campfire at a different house. This time we made banana boats. It's were you cut open the banana peel and add yummy things like chocolate, peanut butter, and marshmallow. (The chocolate chips and mini-marshmallows were treats from America. Peanut butter can be bought some locally but is expensive and processed.)

After stuffing the banana boats we wrapped them in foil and put them in the coals of the fire.

After enjoying our tasty banana boats, we decided to roast the mini-marshmallows. If that's all you have you go for it! Regular puffy, big, marshmallows are challenging to find here.
