In the swing
Sorry, for the long break in blogging. It's been rather busy around here getting settled into my new apartment and school beginning. I'm finally feeling back in the swing of things.
I was so thankful for the week before orientation to work in my classroom to prepare it. It always amazes me how much work has to go into an elementary classroom at the beginning of the school year.
I'm in the same classroom again but it got a fresh coat of paint and our maintenance crew worked tirelessly to clean and wax our floors. They look amazing!
It's strange to me how many years I've been teaching. I am starting my 9th year of teaching 2nd grade. Really has it been that long? I feel like I am just beginning and learning. At the beginning of each year, I still forget how little they are and what they do and don't know how to do independently yet. I forget how exhausting it is to teach all day.
School began on Wednesday, 29 August this year. The first few days are always a little hectic and crazy. Everyone is excited, testing the boundaries and unsure of expectations. It wasn't any different for my 15 new second graders. Of my 15 students, 10 are boys and 5 are girls. I have five nationalities represented in my classroom: USA, Romania, Finland, China and Hungary. One thing that is new and challenging this year is that I have 3 English Language Learners in my class this year. This means that their ability to understand, and communicate in English is limited. I do have many others who are non-native speakers but whose English development is more advanced.
It am excited to see where this class takes me and what I learn from them this year. I am eager to see them grow in their knowledge of English, and all other academic areas. However, above all my desire is to see them grow to love Jesus more and to desire to follow him. It is also my desire for myself that Jesus would show himself to me that cause me to love him more and desire to follow him where ever he leads. I know any of these goals will be met by my strength alone but only by God's grace and the moving of the Holy Spirit in our hearts.
