News from the Classroom

Sorry, it's been a while since I've posted here.  Life just gets busy but it's no excuse.  I have good intentions but that doesn't always mean it gets done.

So, what have I been up to lately?  What has been going on in my classroom?

Between Spirit Week and ICSB basketball tournament in February and our Spring break in March my class really settled down and felt like it hit a stride.  Things were much easier and they were ready to focus and learn.

What have we been learning?

In Social Studies we had a unit on Communities.  The students enjoyed making these clue posters about different community helpers using pictures.

It was great to be able to tie in how the Bible teaches us to live in community and God has rules for us as we live in community.  We discussed the 10 commandments.

We've been practicing our money skills using Hungarian Forint with this fun game.  Teaching Hungarian money is much easier than American.  The value of the coin is clearly displayed on the front of the coins and there are no special names for them that don't relate to the value.  The Forint coins are 200, 100, 50, 20, 10, 5.  It's strange not having a 1 (such as a penny) but I'm adjusting.

Play dough for learning?  Yes! Yes! Yes!  My class was very excited to get to use play dough during our economics unit.  They got to be producers that made goods to sell to consumers.  Of course they also got to be a consumer too.

In a recent story, we where focusing on the character traits of the the main characters.  Together we brainstormed ideas.  It amazed me at how many of the students listed Fruits of the Spirit.
