Wonders of Space & Field Trips Hungarian Style

Better late than never!  I started this post back in April.  Enjoy.

The heavens declare the glory of God,
and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.
Day to day pours out speech,
and night to night reveals knowledge.
There is no speech, nor are there words,
    whose voice is not heard.
Their voice goes out through all the earth,
and their words to the end of the world.
In them he has set a tent for the sun,
which comes out like a bridegroom leaving his chamber,
and, like a strong man, runs its course with joy.
Its rising is from the end of the heavens,
and its circuit to the end of them,
and there is nothing hidden from its heat.  Psalm 19:1-6 ESV
Looking a objects in space

In Science we've been studying about space.  My students were thrilled.  They had so many questions.  The basic objectives of the unit was to learn:
    - the names of different objects in the sky (planets, moons, star, sun)
    - how the planets orbit around the sun which creates seasons
    - the rotation of the earth causes day and night
It was very easy to make my lessons Biblically integrated. God's word has several passages about the space or the night sky.

The walk to Burger King

Then my class and the 4th grade class took a trip to a nearby planetarium to see a night sky show in English.  The students enjoyed it but it was a little above their heads.  The highlight of the trip was walking through the park to Burger King for lunch.

Field trips in Hungary are very different.  :)  The parents drive the kids.  We walk along busy roads to Burger King.  I need a translator (ie: parents or students) to communicate with the people at the field trip site.  Cash payment, no checks.  I'm slowly getting used to it.  When I was teaching in MN I would go on many field trips a year.  So, far I've managed only one each year while in Hungary.
