Budapest by Day

I've really been wanting to buy spices so that the food I cook is more flavorful and enjoyable.  Spices open up a world of options in cooking.  I had been told there was an Asian market store at the Central Market in Budapest that had loads of spices.  I got all ready to go.  I looked up the spices on line in Hungarian so I knew what I was looking for and arranged with a friend to meet her to catch the Volanbuzs to go into the city on Saturday morning.  The bus was late and then we got to the main transit station outside the city.  We waited in line to buy tickets for the tram to go into the city.  Thankfully my friend knows a little more Hungarian than I do.  She told me what to say to buy my ticket, well actually a book of 10 tickets.  Then we got on tram 49 to go into the city.  In total it was about 45 minutes to get there via public transportation. It was worth it.
Here's some pictures of the Budapest and Central Market.

Beautiful building across from the market

A fun shopping street lined with outdoor cafes.

The Asian market store was small but a lot packed in there.  It was busy and crowded so I didn't get any pictures.  However, I did walk away with crushed red peppers, oregano, garlic powder, minced garlic, rosemary, cinnamon, nutmeg and a few other spices.  It was a successful shopping trip and adventure on public transportation.

  1. This part of the city looks tidy and clean. In a few months you'll be an expert at the public transportation and in the the mean time you can have fun having exciting experiences.

  2. Nice pictures and story. I especially liked the Paprika Stand photo. I'm not a big fan of Paprika but then I probably haven't had "good" or "excellent" paprika! Since I mostly cook South Indian food and I don't think South Indian cooking uses paprika to any significance, I haven't had much exposure to paprika.
