A Little Love

Valentine's Day is an American holiday.  I hardly saw any reminders about this holiday that's supposed to be all about love in Hungary.  There was the occasional chocolate package shaped in a heart.  But nothing like in the United States.  To be honest it was quite refreshing to not feel like the marketing and media was pushing us from one holiday right into the next.

We did celebrate Valentine's Day at school.  I had assigned my students to make a valentine's box complete with pictures of other boxes so they would get the idea.  I didn't know if they'd ever made one before.  It was fun to see what they created.

Valentine's Boxes by my class.  (Yes, that one is covered in a shirt.)
We had a little party in the afternoon.  They got to deliver their valentine's which were mostly handmade.  They were precious and so fun to see their creativity.  Then there was food.  My class LOVES to eat.  We had two kinds of cupcakes and also brownies along with fruit juice.  (I was so glad the party was at the end of the day.)   Originally, I had wanted to have some fun and creative craft for my class to do but I was really stressed about it.  Finally, I remembered that the best crafts are paper and markers along with stickers.  So, my students got to make a Valentine for a parent or friend.

The same week as Valentine's Day we had been learning about Jesus's compassion to us and how we can show compassion to others.  We made fun hearts for the hallway.  One each heart they wrote one way to show compassion.
