School is Out!
I wrapped up the school year last week with some fun half-days and lots of work in the afternoons. My class had a ice cream party on Wednesday to say goodbye to a beloved classmate who's family is returning to Canada. Then on Thursday, we played board and card games together. We had a McDonald's lunch as a special treat while we watched one of our favorite DVD's - School House Rocks! (Yes, introduced another generation to "Conjunction, Junction, what's your function..." and "Lolly, Lolly, Lolly, get your adverbs here...") We said our final goodbyes and gave hugs. I will miss this class very much. They will have a special place in my heart as my first class here in Budapest. Thank you SO much for your prayers for my students and me. I am confident that several of my Hungarian students have a growing relationship with Christ that is new. I couldn't have survived this year of teaching without your prayers. There were many times I felt very inadequate to do what God had called me here to do. Your prayers carried me through and his strength and goodness were faithful.
Friday, I finished my teacher duties. My checklist was complete and I signed out with my principal around 1 pm. I continued to fervently work in my classroom on cleaning, organizing, and throwing away. It always amazes me how much piddly stuff there is to do at the end of the year.
Here's how my classroom looked when I left it on Friday afternoon. It looks so empty and bare.
Then it was time to celebrate! I went into the city with my friends for dinner and ice cream. It was a wonderful relaxing evening together with them.
My favorite part was sitting on the steps of Szent Istvan's (St. Steven's) Basilica people watching. There were lots of fun little kids scooting around on their little bikes. I will miss some of these friends next year as God has called them to a different place to serve him. I look forward to getting to know the rest of them even more next year.
