Memorial Stones
In Bible class a few weeks ago we were finishing up our unit on a review of the Old Testament. We had done a quick overview of how God created the world and humans, how sin entered, and God's promise of a Savior through the Jewish people. We learned about the covenants and promises God made to the patriarchs- Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Joseph, and to King David. We learned about how the Israelites where often turning away from God in sin but how God continued to forgive them and love them. In finishing up this unit I wanted to focus my students thoughts on God's faithfulness throughout the Old Testament. I desired for my students to know and treasure these promises and truths about God. I wanted it to be something that they could remember and think about when perhaps they had sinned or forgotten who God was.
I shared with my students how God has commanded Joshua to take 12 stones into the Jordan River as a reminder of what God had done in bringing them safely across the river. It was to be a reminder, a memorial, to future generations about God's power, love and care for them. (Joshua 4)
As a class we decided to make some of our own memorial stones. Here are some of my students stones:
Will you pray with me that these students will remember these truths about God as they look up the stories of the Old Testament and also to see these truths in their own lives each day?
